There is No Health Without Mental Health

The First Mental Health Awareness March in Kosovo, held on May 15, marked a significant milestone in our commitment to mental health advocacy. This event brought together five organizations: Fearless Minds Kosova, Turning Point, KRCT – Kosova Rehabilitation Center for Torture, Follow Up – Organization for Social Integration and Development, and TOKA Center for Psycho-Social and Medical Research. Their involvement demonstrated a collective effort to prioritize mental health and address the challenges faced by individuals in Kosovo.

The importance of this march cannot be understated. Mental health concerns affect a significant portion of the population, and yet, they often remain hidden or stigmatized. By coming together and organizing this march, these organizations made a powerful statement: mental health matters, and it deserves attention, support, and investment. One of the key objectives of the march was to raise awareness about mental health and its impact on individuals and communities. By taking to the streets, the organizers aimed to bring this issue to the forefront of public consciousness. Through the power of visibility and public engagement,  we sought to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open conversations. Additionally, this march aimed to combat discrimination against mental health issues.

Many individuals with mental health challenges face societal prejudice and misunderstanding, which can exacerbate their struggles. By standing together, these organizations showcased their commitment to fighting discrimination and promoting inclusivity. They sent a clear message that everyone deserves compassion, understanding, and support, regardless of their mental health status. Furthermore, this event advocated for increased investment in mental health services, policies, and research. The march provided a platform to call for better resources and support for those dealing with mental health issues in Kosovo.

“There is No Health Without Mental Health” serves as a powerful reminder that well-being encompasses more than just physical health. Mental health, an integral part of our humanity, must be nurtured, supported, and safeguarded. By highlighting the need for improved services and policies, we aimed to create lasting change and ensure that mental health receives the attention and resources it deserves.
