Break the Ice
“Break the ice” project in Promoting gender-equitable norms with focus violence prevention and promoting gender equality and interculturality through enhancing the capacities of young people, mobilizing youth to engage in community development and civic life in the two cities in Kosovo* and Serbia. Our project aims to create a culture based on human rights, non-violence and healthy development amongst young men and women and the community in general. Specifically, through engaging young men and women aged 15 – 25 by helping them to embrace attitudes and demonstrate behaviors that support more gender-equitable social norms, healthy lifestyles and discourage violent behavior against community, women, and peers.
This project aims at Enhancing the capacities of young women and men on peer education skills with focus on human rights, discrimination, gender, violence prevention and raising awareness about these and other themes relevant to their lives; Increasing youth participation and mobilization which promote gender-equitable norms, challenge their attitudes on gender-based violence and are able to articulate the importance of human rights for all citizen by addressing gender equality, gender-based violence, and unhealthy lifestyles; Increasing awareness of general public in both cities about human rights, discrimination, and gender equality; Increasing the awareness of local institutions and relevant stakeholders in Prishtina and Leskovac about human rights, discrimination, and gender equality.
The primary target group in this project is youth, adolescent boys and girls between the ages of 15-25 in targeted secondary schools and universities. The project anticipates working in two locations in Prishtina and Leskovac with direct beneficiaries of secondary schools, reaching a number of 200 male and female students in the cities of Prishtina and Leskovac. The primary target group is active in all design and implementation aspects of the project. Secondary target groups include teachers, youth, youth workers, representatives from two organizations, representatives from a sample of the population of the cities, with an approximate number of 200 secondary beneficiaries. In addition, this project will include civil society organizations including local NGOs which are in the municipalities where the project will work directly with youth, researchers, media and social marketing organizations. Other secondary target groups include Ministries of Education, Ministries of Youth, and Gender and Human Rights departments from both countries.
